Materials & Sustainability

What materials are Eluvia Path bags made from?

Our bags are made from 100% natural fibres — primarily jute and cotton. Jute is a fast-growing plant that requires minimal water and no pesticides, making it one of the most sustainable materials on Earth. Our cotton is sourced from certified suppliers to ensure it meets ethical and environmental standards.

Are your bags truly eco-friendly?

Yes, completely. All Eluvia Path bags are carbon neutral, made in ETI certified and SEDEX registered factories using 100% naturally sourced fibres. Our packaging is also plastic-free. We believe sustainability isn't just a label — it's every decision we make.

What is jute and why is it sustainable?

Jute is a natural plant fibre — often called the "golden fibre" — that grows quickly without needing pesticides or fertilisers. It absorbs CO₂ at a higher rate than trees during growth, is fully biodegradable, and produces a strong, durable fabric. It's one of the most environmentally friendly raw materials available.

Are jute bags better for the environment than plastic bags?

Significantly so. A single plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to decompose and contributes to ocean pollution. Jute bags are 100% biodegradable, compostable, and reusable for years. One jute bag can replace hundreds of plastic bags over its lifetime.

Are your bags biodegradable?

Yes. Both jute and cotton are fully biodegradable and compostable. At the end of their long life, they return naturally to the earth without leaving harmful residues — unlike synthetic materials such as nylon or polyester which can persist for centuries.

Are the dyes used in your bags eco-friendly?

We only work with factories that use non-toxic, safe dyeing processes. Our production partners are ETI certified, which means they meet strict environmental and labour standards — including responsible chemical handling and zero harmful run-off into waterways.

Care & Durability

How long do jute bags last?

With proper care, a quality jute bag can last many years. Jute fibres are naturally strong and become even more resistant with use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and store in a dry place to maximise longevity.

Can I wash my jute bag?

We recommend spot-cleaning jute bags with a damp cloth and mild soap. Machine washing can weaken jute fibres and cause shrinkage. For stubborn stains, hand-wash gently in cool water and allow to air dry flat — never tumble dry or iron.

How do I care for my cotton bag?

Cotton bags are more washable than jute. Machine wash on a gentle cold cycle with a mild detergent. Hang to air dry — avoid high heat from dryers which can shrink the fabric. If your bag is printed, wash inside-out to protect the design.

What is the weight capacity of your bags?

This varies by bag style, but our jute shoppers and tote bags are designed to carry heavy loads — typically 10–20 kg depending on the model. Jute is naturally one of the strongest natural fibres available, making it ideal for grocery shopping and everyday use.

Can I use eco bags for groceries and food?

Absolutely. Our bags are food-safe and ideal for grocery shopping. Jute and cotton are naturally breathable, which helps keep produce fresh longer. For damp or liquid items, we recommend using a reusable inner liner to protect the bag.

Ethics & Certifications

What does ETI certified mean?

ETI stands for the Ethical Trading Initiative — an international alliance of companies, trade unions, and NGOs that promotes workers' rights globally. ETI certified factories meet strict standards around fair wages, safe working conditions, freedom of association, and no child labour.

What is SEDEX and why does it matter?

SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) is a global platform for sharing responsible supply chain data. SEDEX registered factories are audited and transparent about their labour, health, safety, and environmental practices. It gives us — and you — confidence that our production is ethical.

Where are Eluvia Path bags manufactured?

Our bags are manufactured in India, where jute and cotton have been cultivated and crafted for centuries. Our directors make regular visits to our production partners to monitor quality, review standards, and maintain strong relationships with our on-the-ground team.
